Substantial Progress Towards 5G in Israel

October 28, 2018

PRESS RELEASE                 October 28th, 2018

Progress in the fifth generation of cellular communications in Israel, for the first-time live tests begins in this field

  • RunEL, which develops the Sparq-2020 System on Chip for 5G cellular networks base stations, was awarded an experimental license from the Israeli Ministry of Communications for the use of 3.55 - 3.75 GHz frequencies for conducting 5G live tests in Israel.

  • RunEL's 5th generation technology is optimized for low latency and high reliability and its ideally suited for application and services such as: autonomous cars, drones, industrial robots, virtual and augmented reality, remote surgery, on line gaming, tactile internet, Internet of Things (IoT) and more.

  • The company is expected to participate tomorrow in the Smart Mobility Summit 2018, the annual conference of the Prime Minister's Office for Intelligent Transportation, in cooperation with the Ministry of Science and Keren Hayesod, and to present the technology to the conference participants.

RunEL of Rishon Letzion, Israel announced today that it has received a temporary license from the Ministry of Communications for the use of 3.55-3.75 GHz frequencies for field testing in the 5th generation technologies it is developing. The company is expected to participate in the Smart Mobility 2018 annual conference of the Prime Minister's Office for Intelligent Transportation, in cooperation with the Ministry of Science and Keren Hayesod, and to present the technology to the conference attendees from over 30 countries.

RunEL develops electronic components (chips) used for the base stations of the fifth generation cellular network with very low latency, enabling the operation of delay sensitive services and applications such as: autonomous cars, drones, industrial robots, virtual and augmented reality, remote surgery, on line gaming, tactile internet, Internet of Things (IoT) and more., The company, together with other Israeli companies and research institutes, is a member of the Heron consortium organized by the Israel Innovation Authority, which promotes, among other fields, research of generic technologies for the 5th  generation of cellular communications infrastructure. The Israeli Ministry of Communications serves as an observer in the consortium out of a desire to promote, to the extent possible, fifth-generation activity in the State of Israel and to remove regulatory barriers in the spectrum and telecom fields.

The license for use of the frequencies granted by the Ministry of Communications to RunEL will enable the Company and other members of the Heron consortium to experiment with the technologies developed in their natural environment, thus advancing them towards the commercial breakthrough in the global markets.

"The Ministry of Communications is making great efforts in planning, standardizing, and assisting companies and organizations to promote research, testing and deployment of the 5th generation networks in Israel, as part of the Minister of Communications' policy to position Israel in the global front line of the wireless cellular field," said Asher Bitton, Spectrum Planning Department manager in the Ministry of Communications.

"The government assistance of the Ministry of Communications, the Innovation Authority and the Director of Fuel Substitutes and Smart Transportation will enable Israeli communications companies to position themselves as global technology leaders in the 5th generation field added Dr. Zion Hadad, CEO of RunEL.
